I can’t seem to win in the grocery-shopping-with-small-children department. If I have the whole crew with me, I spend more money because I am rushing through the store, distracted and hungry and throwing random things in the cart. If I only have 1 or 2 kids, I spend more money because I am taking my time through the store, distracted and hungry and throwing random things in the cart. I just realized two things: 1) I need to stop going to the grocery store hungry and 2) I need to hire a personal shopper.
Last night was a 1 kid night. Grocery shopping was so calm and quiet. I hit 3 stores in under 1.5 hours. At Trader Joe’s, they were sampling pretzel rolls and ham and mustard and hot cider. It was all pretty darn delicious. I bought a quarter of a spiral ham for $4.99/lb. I’m excited to use it as a starting point for this week’s meals and see how far I can stretch the leftovers into other meals.
Here’s what’s for dinner at my house this week:
Monday — Baked Ham, Old-Fashioned Scalloped Potatoes, Roasted Broccoli
Tuesday — White Bean & Ham Soup, rolls, green salads
Wednesday — Fried Rice, fruit salad
Thursday — Baked Ham & Cheese Sandwiches, chips, carrot sticks
Friday — Dinner Out
Saturday — Quesadillas with salsa & guacamole, fruit salad
Sunday — Perfect Potato Soup, buttermilk biscuits, coleslaw

I am cooking half a spiral ham tonight so we will have a similar meal plan this week! Ham and bean soup was already on the list, but thanks for your other ideas for using up the leftovers! We will probably finish it off this weekend with Denver omelets for breakfast, yum!
