As usual during the holidays, our eating habits slid into dumpy territory. It feels good to clean out the fridge and get back on track. I am trying to make fresh juices every other day, as well as eating less sugar and more vegetables. Making good food choices can be tough, but feeling better is great motivation. Here's what's for dinner at my house this week: Monday -- Black Bean & Cheese Quesadillas, Roasted Butternut Squash Tuesday -- Superfood Crunch Salad, No Knead Bread, goat cheese Wednesday -- Quinoa Patties with avocado, Roasted Beets Thursday -- Shakshuka with corn tortillas, fruit salad Friday -- Dinner Out Saturday -- Pizza Keep Reading

What’s for dinner? This week’s menu plan (12/15)
I can't seem to win in the grocery-shopping-with-small-children department. If I have the whole crew with me, I spend more money because I am rushing through the store, distracted and hungry and throwing random things in the cart. If I only have 1 or 2 kids, I spend more money because I am taking my time through the store, distracted and hungry and throwing random things in the cart. I just realized two things: 1) I need to stop going to the grocery store hungry and 2) I need to hire a personal shopper. Last night was a 1 kid night. Grocery shopping was so calm and quiet. I hit 3 stores in under 1.5 hours. At Trader Joe's, they were sampling pretzel Keep Reading

What’s for dinner? This week’s vegetarian menu plan (11/10)
Eating a vegetable-based diet, or at least working in 1-2 meatless dinners a week, is a good way to add variety to your meals and cut your grocery budget. To read more, check out our post, Less Meat, More Vegetables. Our family has been spending time at Zenger Farms every week, so my kids are really excited about things like radishes and purple beans and kale. I'm all over that, especially since the only meat they really like comes in the shape of a hot dog. Here's what's for dinner at my house this week: Monday -- Leftover Soup (From Bob's Red Mill Black Bean Soup Mix. Even my picky kids loved it!) Tuesday -- Quinoa Patties, Roasted Sweet Keep Reading

What’s for dinner? This week’s menu plan (10/27)
Over the weekend, we watched a soccer game in the pouring rain, lost our power in the midst of howling wind, and did yard work in the bright sunshine. All in the span of a single day. Welcome to fall in the Pacific NW. It's such a moody season. My husband and I love it, especially those stormy days when we can stay home and crank up our wood stove (if the kids take long naps, it's just the icing on the cake). It makes me want to make and eat nothing but comfort food. So that's exactly what I'm going to do this week. Here's what's for dinner at my house: Monday -- Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup (simplified a bit), No-Knead Bread, green salad Tuesday Keep Reading
