Howard got some great deals at Safeway. Check out what he had to say about it:
Hi, I thought I’d share my fun trip to Safeway this morning.
I’d also like to point out that the mfr cpns that come in the Fred Meyer mailers can be used at Safeway or anywhere else.
A&H Clump Litter $1.50 after $3 cpn and doubler ($5 Friday price)
Freschetta Pizza $3.25 after $.75 cpn and doubler
Diet Dr Pepper free (J4U personalized deal)
Nescafe w/ CoffeeMate free (J4U personalized deal; $5.99 value)
NV Nut Bars $1.99 after cpn and doubler. Will get $2.99 back from mail-in rebate (yes, those still exist)
6-pack Pepsi bottles $1 after cpn and doubler ($2.50 Friday price)
Total net spent after rebate $4.75 + a postage stamp
Most of these deals use a Safeway double coupon, which is available at Oregon & SW Washington (Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Clark, Skamania & Klickitat Counties) Safeways only. You can double up to 4 manufacturer’s coupons per transaction, up to 50¢ each. The double coupon is found in the weekly ad at the bottom of the middle page and look’s like this:
Safeway stores are inconsistent from store to store with their double coupon policy. The following is taken directly from Safeway’s Just4U coupon policy on their website:
Check with your local store regarding “double coupon” promotions where customers will receive double the manufacturer coupon face value off the regular or club card price up to the identified limit. Not all locations offer double coupon promotions and the terms of such promotions may differ by time and store. Limitations and restrictions for double coupon promotions may change at any time. Changes will be posted in store only. “Double coupon” promotions do not apply to any internet or digital coupons except for applicable internet printed manufacturer coupons. These explanations and restrictions on “double coupons” apply to any promotion that increases the value of a manufacturer coupon beyond its face value.

Howard, how do you get the FM mailers? I get emails from them all the time, but no mailers. Is it because I rarely spend enough there to earn a quarterly reward?
Thanks!
Kate from Frugal Living NW says
Make sure that your address is on your rewards card online. I didn’t have mine and never received coupons. Once I went in and added it I started getting them.
Howard says
Thanks, didn’t know that exactly. I know I get the quarterly rewards rebate in the mail when we spend at least $500, so I figured that was the source. (If you have a FM rewards card, what’s the point of using it if you’re not going to receive the quarterly rebate for lack of an address?)

Thanks Howard! I had no idea the Fred Meyer mailer coupons could be used elsewhere-nice tip!

I hope you’re getting the mailers now, because I think at one time you were not. I got 2 in the past week. Most of the cpns in them are mfr cpns with the FM logo at the bottom. They scan everywhere that I know of. You also can snip off the logo without any guilt to avoid hassles.

Hi Howard! Can you please tell me where you found the $3 cpn for the A&H litter? Thank you for all your wonderful tips!

It was online a couple months ago, but those come and go. The Arm and Hammer website has a cpn page, but it limits you to something like one or two per year per coupon. Plus I think they are SmartSource, which means I often try to print them and come away empty-handed, leaving me high and dry for the rest of the year. There’s usually a $1 or $1.50 litter cpn on their site. You also can try their FB page or smartsource.com–maybe something will turn up there.
