I don't shop @ Walmart says
Cashier at Richland, WA store refused to sell items that are free when she saw that I will be using UP rewards from similar purchase day before. Those rewards were giving to me my couponner buddy to roll and the store where she went didn’t had all items in stock. What do you do about it?
Melody says
I’m actually surprised they checked that closely, but I would have to say she probably has the right to say no. Most of the items are technically limit 1 per person and she could tell that you had already bought them. Even though they weren’t your +UP Rewards, they weren’t designed to be used on the same item. Does that make sense?
Brenda says
Question: Is the Hershey’s Pot of Gold Chocolates considered “Hershey’s Christmas Packaged Chocolate Candy” ?
If it is there’s a $2 RA coupon available on their facebook page that could make that deal even better!
Howard says
It might work, but probably isn’t supposed to because Pot of Gold is a regular, year-round product. I once had an issue somewhere (Walgreens?) because I bought M&Ms that were not the Christmas ones and were not on sale.
Brenda says
Yeah, once I saw the packaging I knew it was not going to work. Oh well.
charolyn says
OK-I was running earlier, but now have my list & these are the items (per another blog comment I saw) that will be money makers with the 20% discount (in this case-because many of the prices above on the free items are regular prices):
-Xmas socks
-conair brush
-Philips earbuds
-rite aid items—bath pouf, cotton balls, cough drops, mouth wash, tooth brush, pantiliners, and cotton swabs
Howard says
Didn’t realize this till just now when I looked at yesterday’s receipt. (Yes, I know I’m going straight to Hell for shopping on Thanksgiving morning.) The only one of the above items I bought was the swabs for 79 cents. Also noticed the Stax chips were $1.43 each, so a small MM on both cans. And of course the light bulb with cpn was a MM. I passed on the gift wrap tape and Stover candy bags Thurs to try to roll a couple UPs till Friday, but the store I visited this morning was out of the candy, so all I got were 2 rolls of non-fattening tape.
charolyn says
I ran in briefly Thanksgiving morning also!
Shannon says
If I did all there freebies, I would have like $60 in Ups to roll. No bueno 🙁
Howard says
I will just pick and choose a few items, especially the ones likely to sell out quickly. In a normal full week, I buy one or two reward items on Sunday, then return another day to roll the UPs. It doesn’t always work, because things sell out. However, once an item is gone, you can request a raincheck, and they will deduct the value of the UP reward when you return to buy the item. I plan on being at the store when they open Thurs at 8. (So much for boycotting stores that open on Thanksgiving Day)
superjaz says
Yeah thing to remember up rewards and free stuff is handy only if you need them, and it’s a lot of ups.
Thing my hubby and I do is make a list of the things we want chop it into 3 smaller trips.
Day one freebies (they go fast so get them first)
Day 2 using the ups from the previous day get the stuff that isn’t free but still has up rewards, like the mms,
And 3 stuff with out ups to roll last, like bogo free deal e
Brenda says
I do the same thing, superjaz!
Normally it doesn’t matter that I can’t use my UpR’s on the same day I earn them, but it makes it so tough for this weekend. I’ll buy about half of the freebies on the first day and try for the second half the next day. I am relieved that they don’t put more limitations on their rewards, like Walgreens. I’m going cross-eyed trying to figure out scenarios for their sale!
Brenda says
PS
Thanks for the match-ups, Melody!
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
charolyn says
Yes-you too Brenda & everyone else 🙂
Howard says
Same here. I got $17 in RA UPs Thursday but was able to roll only $2 into today and got another $2. Also got $16.50 in Walgreens RRs Thurs, rolled $3 of it to today and ended up with another $7 RR. So lots of things to use up in next two weeks. On the upside, I used the 25% Black Fri cpn at Walgreens and combined it with 40,000 balance rewards ($50 worth) points to get $62 worth of razor blades and toothbrush heads for $45.50, then threw in something called a probiotic for $7 with a $7 RR in return. Rolled a $3 RR from Thurs and paid $.48 out of pocket.
Howard says
$46.48, not $45.50.
Janene says
how do we know which ones are eligible for the 20% discount? I thought that was for items that are not on sale
Howard says
You get the sale price or 20% off, whichever comes out less. For example, this week the Colgate toothpastes are $3.50, but if you choose one of the reg price $3.99 flavors, they’re only $3.19. Same thing with the Sure and Brut deodorants this week. Sometimes this leads to a problem @ checkout, when something rings up for less than I expected and I’m trying to use UP rewards for more $$ than I’m actually being charged.
charolyn says
Thanks Melody-
Several of these items are money makers with the 20% discount.
Kristy says
Oh! Good catch! Wish I knew what ones for planning!
