This weekend my husband and my boys attended Monster Jam at the Moda Center in Portland. Here is my husband’s review:
In case you’ve never been to Monster Jam before,
A. It will pump you full of adrenaline for two hours, and
B. Your kids will like it as much as you do.
If you’re lucky you’ll have a voice left after you’ve squealed like a girl over and over again as the giant trucks launch themselves thirty feet into the air and crash or not crash land. You need to go ahead and trust me on this one: it is way more fun that I thought it was going to be.
Monster Jam consists of watching giant, over-powered, balloon-tired trucks jump, wheelie, and crush cars.
Also, there are intermissions wherein the same drivers from the trucks get into 1000cc dune buggies and race like there’s no tomorrow. The winner of the race we watched passed the runner up mid air at the finish line just before landing on the side of the front wheel, and the wheel broke completely off.
So awesome!
Warning: do not attend this event without hearing protection. As a rookie, two years ago, I took a few kids to a Monster Jam in Tacoma and was so thankful to the Monster veterans sitting behind us who let the kids use their extra ear muffs.
This time we stopped by Harbor Freight on the way to the Moda Center and picked up five sets of 21 db ear muffs. They did just fine, and none of us have damaged ear drums. (Amazon has them as well here, but they are more expensive.)
There are Monster Jam shows all over the country throughout the year, so head to MonsterJam.com to see when it’s coming to your city!
