Ten for Teens 2016: Final giving project update (we did it!)
We did it, friends! Our “final” gift card tally is 875, which means our community provided a $10 gift card to every single child aged 12-20 in foster care in the Portland Metro area (Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties). You all have NO IDEA the impact your generosity is having on both the foster kids who will receive these cards, but also the DHS workers who tirelessly serve vulnerable children in our area. They are absolutely floored with what you all gave and the messages of love that accompanied them. We are making a difference! This has truly been a community effort — individuals, families, businesses, churches, neighbors, Bible Keep Reading

Ten for Teens 2016: Give a gift card to a local teen in foster care this Christmas
Ten for Teens 2016 Four years ago, Frugal Living NW featured Welcome Boxes for children entering foster care as an opportunity for all of you to give back to our community. The drive was a raving success as the community showed how much it values vulnerable children in the Portland Metro area. These boxes communicated a much needed message of value, dignity, and worth at a time of great vulnerability and uncertainty in these children's lives. And now we have another opportunity to serve this Christmas season. We're back again this year with our big Ten for Teens giving opportunity! Over the last three years, Frugal Living NW readers have Keep Reading

How one person can change the life of a kid in foster care #ComcastInTheCommunity
One of the best parts of having a local blog is that I get the change to share about things that are important to the Northwest community. I'm thrilled to partner with Comcast today to highlight one particular organization making a difference in the Portland community: CASA for Children. As many of you know, my husband and I became certified foster parents in 2014 and we've had two school-aged children in our care for almost 18 months. It takes a fairly big team of people to move a child's case along the path to either returning the kids to their parents or finding another permanent home and we've been fortunate to have a pretty great group of Keep Reading
