Before I start on dinner, while I was making my menu plan I found this Nutty Pumpkin Spice Granola recipe. It's amazing. I made a half batch to make sure I would like it. I love it! What’s for dinner?: This week’s menu plan (11/7)
Did anyone try menu planning for the first time last week? How did it go? I stuck to my plan for the most part. I managed to have leftovers so that helped to save one dinner. Here's what's for dinner at my house this week: Monday -- turkey chili (there is a chicken version in The Ultimate Guide to Freezer Friendly Meals eBook) served with chips. Using Emily's recipe for crockpot pinto beans but leaving them whole. Tuesday -- BBQ Pork Sandwiches with Asian style coleslaw (doesn't sound like a good combo, but it is) Wednesday -- Mexican Lasagna (you may need to be a member to view this) with chips Thursday -- Our weekly dinner club Friday -- Keep Reading

Frugal Homemaking for October
Shakshuka from Smitten Kitchen If you have never heard of Shakshuka, allow me to be the first to introduce you. It's an Israeli dish of poached eggs in a spicy tomato sauce. Served with a side of bread, it's a great meal for breakfast, brunch, or dinner. Try a south-of-the-border spin on it by swapping cilantro for the parsley and tortillas for the pita bread. Muy delicioso. Enchiladas with Green Tomato Sauce from The Oregonian's Foodday section Have more green tomatoes than red ones now? Check out this recipe. Do you have a favorite way to use green tomatoes? Spicy Sauteed Corn from Orangette Corn is one of my favorite late Keep Reading

Frugal Homemaking for August
Blueberries are fading into a sweet August memory. Poetic, huh? My husband and I picked 14 pounds last Saturday with the sun at our backs and two whiney children at our feet. Not so poetic. I flash froze the berries that weren't gobbled up fresh. I never post about HOT! deals, but it's hard to beat the pricetag on those gorgeous blackberries that are ripening as fast as school is approaching. For an invasive species, they sure are delicious. Peaches are also in season right now. Go to Pick Your Own to find an orchard near you. Tomatoes are slowly ripening; the heat we've had recently has definitely helped. There will be a whole lot Keep Reading
Five Reasons I Like Small Houses
image credit As my husband and I prepare to move our family of four out of our three-bedroom, 1,070 square foot home, the comment we often hear is, "Oh, you're looking for a bigger place?" And to be perfectly honest, that is one of the items on our wish list. But there is much to be said for life in a small home. I could easily write a post titled, "Where do you store your stockpile when you are having a hard time just finding a place for your visiting mother-in-law to sleep?" That seemed a bit long-winded, so I decided to focus on the benefits of downsized living instead. Actually, the whole downsizing trend is hot in the real estate market Keep Reading
