Grilled Salmon with Spicy Teriyaki Sauce (recipe)
Grilled Salmon with Spicy Teriyaki Sauce Okay, I know "frugal" and "fish" don't usually go hand in hand. Unless of course, you're talking fish sticks. But let's be honest, who really wants to talk about fish sticks? In my opinion, the word fish was never intended to be used as an adjective for stick. Anyway, back to real fish. I think a great benefit of living the frugal lifestyle most of the time is that it allows you to splurge some of the time. And really appreciate it. Enter fish. It is generally not cheap, but it's fun to throw in the menu every now and then when you have a special occasion and some wiggle room in the budget. I'll be the Keep Reading
How to Make Crockpot Pinto Beans
How to Make Crockpot Pinto Beans In my first bean-related post, I showed you that cooking dried, soaked beans in a crockpot works really well because of the long, slow simmer. I usually use a stovetop burner for every bean except pinto. It's just a weird personal preference. There's something about a pot of beans simmering on the stove that makes me feel incredibly domestic, in a south-of-the-border kind of way. When I'm cooking dried pinto beans, though, I always use my crockpot because 1) I don't have to keep an eye on them and 2) I like to cook them down until they are super soft before mashing them into the consistency of refried Keep Reading

Go through Financial Peace University with us for FREE (starts THURSDAY)
As I think about the best ways I can help you right now, the thing that keeps coming to mind is helping you manage your money. Yes, my team and I are great at finding and communicating deals on items that you need and want (and we'll keep doing that) and we're also good at helping you out around the house, but what I most enjoy is helping you learn how to manage their money. And it's not because I'm a financial genius or have some special education. It's simply because I (and my husband) have put the principles we learned in Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University (FPU) into practice and have done so for the last fourteen years. What we Keep Reading
How to make a cold-brewed iced latte or mocha (espresso without an espresso maker!)
Homemade Iced Lattes and Mochas I've spent a good amount of energy perfecting my homemade espresso recipes using the Aeropress Espresso Maker (Amazon). I've actually started to prefer what I make at home over Starbucks. But what's a latte-loving girl to do when the weather heats up? Put it on ice! I could make a hot latte and pour it over ice, but I don't like how quickly the ice melts, leaving me with a watered down drink. I searched the internet and found several recipes to make a cold-brewed coffee that claims to be smooth and less bitter that traditionally brewed java, but I don't want iced coffee, I want a latte. Sugar, milk, and all. I Keep Reading
Making homemade hamburger buns (basic yeast dough recipe)
How to Make Homemade Hamburger Buns In our house, hamburgers are welcome anytime of year (learn how to make the perfect hamburger here). And homemade hamburger buns even more so. Hamburger buns are great for holding more than just hamburgers, too. You could easily use these buns for any sandwich fillings. Or not. The other day, we ate these hot out of the oven, simply smeared with butter and honey. I'd highly recommend it. This recipe is actually just a basic yeast dough. It works great for buns, cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, or loaves of bread. Adjust the sugar to suit your taste and feel free to add a cup of whole wheat flour in place of Keep Reading
