Don’t forget about the awesome Fred Meyer Fuchsia Event this Saturday (4/11) from 7 am-4 pm. You don’t have to buy fuchsias — you can purchase any plants or containers (or bring some from home) and they will help you plant your item in premium Black Gold Potting Soil.
Some tips from Jacki gave us last year. She has attended the event for years:
- Purchase your plants the day before the event. This prevents waiting in two lines (one to purchase and one to plant).
- Bring a time release fertilizer and have the planter add some to the mix
- Request that the planter fill the dirt all the way to the top because it settles quite a bit as the air works out of the planting mix.
Also note that this event runs until 4pm. In my experience going early is actually the worst time for crowds.
Has anyone attended this before? What advice do you have?

I have been attending this event for years. I have several pots & hanging baskets. Bring them to the store empty (or buy new pots) and take them into the garden center & pick out your favorite posies. Pay for your new plants and then get in line for potting soil. The sales staff will fill each of your pots & then plant your new plants just the way you want them. Then you load everything up and take them home. My front yard always looks spectacular after I get the pots placed around my yard!

How many pots can we bring for Fuchsia Day. If we buy the plants the day before, do we bring the receipt as proof of purchase?
thanks

Do you think they will have Fuchsia Saturday 2020?

Oh yes!!! This event not only is the KICKSTART OF SPRING IT has become is a family and friends affair encompassing 4 generations!! Our lessons learned are: WEAR A BACK PACK and take an umbrella!! (YOULL SEE WHY) Wear a warm hat and winter gloves..or latex or garden gloves. We love to get in line early…by about 6AM. We swing by McDonalds drive thru on the way and get breakfast to go..with plenty of hot coffee. A good idea is to also take a large thermos of coffee and hot chocolate and carry a can of whip cream!! FYI: take a box of tissue and a half roll of paper towels and chap stick. We live in Wahington in the puget sound area and have experienced pouring rain, blowing, cutting wind..with or without rain and the occasional dry but chilly day. The more people in your group the better….you’ll need them to hold your place in line when you need a guaranteed bathroom break which is also a great time to hit up the in-store STARBUCKS! It’s a great idea for one of your group to drive a pickup as well to carry everyone’s planters back to all your homes! Or at least have large tarps to protect the inside of your car. Be sure to check out all coupons that apply before for this special day. I always buy at least 4 to 6 bags of black gold planter soil so I’ve got enough for all my containers at home!! The store employees have always been so kind and very knowledgeable and work so hard to ensure we have a positive experience. You can gain a wealth of knowledge from them. You may also find people from your local fuschia society attending and sharing their experience. As we near the date I suggest you spend time wandering through the garden department at Freddy’s with a cup of coffee in one hand and your notebook and pen in the other as well as your phone for pictures. It’s a gardner’s time to dream! I’ll see you in line!!
