I found out awhile back, be sure the checker doesn’t put in the senior discount before putting in the store coupons. By doing that way it brought the price down to only the coupon price, so at customer service they corrected it by putting in coupon and then senior discount to get the 10% off. I didn’t have the chicken coupon this week so didn’t have that experience Howard mentioned. Always enjoy Howard’s info.

See Howard’s comment about the frozen chicken q. On Tuesday, to save a few pennies, present the q after requesting the Senior Discount. Example: 4.99 – 1.50 = 3.49 – .35 sr = 3.14 vs 4.99 – .50 sr = 4.49 – 1.50 = 2.99.
But, for example, if one is getting the Kroger canned veggies, present the store q before asking for the Senior Discount to get the best deal.
The trick is to hand the qs to the cashier separately as one wants them to be used, not all at once.
Howard says
I’ve had mixed results with the senior discount. Sometimes, if I use an in-ad cpn, I get NO discount, like on the 99-cent milk and OJ. Usually I get both discounts and pay 89 cts. I’ll try it your way tomorrow, but I don’t think it’s going to matter. I believe the computer “analyzes” the cpns, regardless of order presented, and discounts the 10% only after the store cpn is deducted. I think the only way to really beat the system is to get the sr discount, then take the cpn to customer service and get the $1.50 back. (Which I would not do intentionally.)
Caro says
Trust me, Howard. 🙂
Let me know how it works for you.
Howard says
As usual, the senior day discount turned into a mixed bag.
Yes, I handed in the senior cpn first. I did get $.50 off the chicken, then the $1.50 store cpn came off next, so yes, $2.99.
I also handed in (last) an in-ad cpn for $.99 cottage cheese. Bought two. The computer, as it has done in the past, adjusted the total price from $1.25 to $.99 after in-ad cpn and sr discount. ($.13 for each discount) Should have been $.89. Showed it to the cashier, who said to take it to customer service, but I didn’t bother this time.

It’s so frustrating that you have to go to customer service to fix their problem.
Caro says
Sorry, guess I wasn’t clear with the 2 examples I previously gave.
One has to hand over in-ad coupons (the cottage cheese) before the Senior Discount. A mailed coupon (the frozen chicken), which acts like a manufacturer coupon, should be handed over after the Senior Discount.
If one has Kroger coupons loaded to one’s rewards card, they will come off as soon as the card is scanned, which usually means they come off before the Senior Discount. Unless, the cashier will scan the card after the Senior Discount, but I make no promises about that.
Howard says
Hi, I just re-read your Sept 5 post and realize that it didn’t register with me. Should have handed in the cott cheese cpn, then the senior, then the chicken cpn. Whether I remember to do this in the future is anybody’s guess. Thanks.

The $1/2 Quilted Northern is for the “Soft and Strong” only. In my store, all the packs of “Soft and Strong” had .55/1 peelies on them, which saved me more than the printable!

I found a great deal while at Fred Meyer. They have Blue Moon 12 packs on sale for 13.99. Checkout 51 has a three dollar offer, bringing the price to 10.99. There was a rebate offer in the Blue Moon display at the store for a 10.00 rebate if you bought Blue Moon and a package of Aidells sausage. So I picked up a pack for 5.49. My out of pocket expense was 19.48, but with the offers I will only have paid 6.48. Not bad IMHO.

Warning: the FM water is $1.88 only on Sunday and Monday. Same with the corn, 3 for $1.
Other good 2-day sale items are Nathan’s hot dogs $2, whole watermelons $3.99, ribeye steaks $5.77, jumbo raw shrimp $5.77. Limit 2 on the water, steak and shrimp.
Tues Sept 6 is senior day. Age 55+. 10% off on non-food items, also on store brand foods.
The FM frozen 3-lb chicken breasts and cutlets are $4.99, a good price. If you are lucky enough to get the FM mailers, you may have a $1.50 cpn on these.
