It’s almost Nordstrom Anniversary Sale time and we could not be more excited. Why you should shop this sale Let's address the obvious -- this is a "frugal lifestyle" site and Nordstrom is not exactly cheap. And you're right. Nordstrom’s prices are higher than Old Navy or Target. But here’s the deal. I eventually got tired of buying super cheap clothes that barely lasted a few months and if they did, they were misshapen and stretched out after a few washes or the color faded. And they only occasionally fit well. Generally, most everything Nordstrom sells is quality that will stand the test of time and the cut and fit of many of their Keep Reading
Portland Family Fun Guide: Wildwood Recreation Area
Wildwood Recreational Site (Mt. Hood) Whenever we start to get an urge to explore the wilderness with our young twins, Wildwood Recreation Site on Mt. Hood is near the top of our list. We discovered it about three years ago and we find new things to enjoy each time we take the trip. The Cascade Streamwatch and Wetland Boardwalk Trails are well worth the trip and there are plenty of other attractions there, too. Just 16 miles east of Sandy on Highway 26 lies the town of Welches. A crossroads to people heading to Government Camp or higher, Welches is home to Wildwood Recreation Site. We usually stop at the Thriftway just a mile past the park Keep Reading
Let’s make a plan for your summer mornings! (Mini-Boot Camp THIS WEEK!)
Summer is in full swing and if I know one thing it's this -- summer plus kids minus a plan equals chaos. And not the "we all slept in and built a fort outside and ate 47 Popsicles and watched movies until midnight" chaos. I mean "no one has dressed or gotten off the couch or lifted a finger all day" chaos. The type of chaos that makes a parent want to ship everyone off to one of those two-month long summer camps we see in the movies but can't find in a Google search. The answer isn't to "embrace the chaos" because embracing it usually means I'm working hours a day cleaning up after a bunch of sloths. Instead, let's CONTAIN THE CHAOS with a Keep Reading

5 ways to save money at the dentist
How to save money at the dentist As we are self-employed, we have elected to forgo dental insurance and pay out-of-pocket for all our dental procedures. (Our kids are required by law to be on a dental insurance plan, but it still costs a fortune so we employ these techniques on them as well.) We have had to be fairly shrewd when it comes to our dental health. Here are some things we do to drastically lower our dental costs: We brush and floss regularly. A no-brainer, but I am surprised how many people skip basic recommended dental maintenance. After a much-too expensive dental procedure, my dentist said to me, "You know, you could save a lot Keep Reading
