Summer feels like a million years away, but if you have kids, you know that weirdly you have to start signing these children up for camps and clinics and lessons NOW before they fill up. This always gets me thinking about other things to fill those days that feel like we're sitting on the surface of the sun. Or the days that we all feel like we're cooped up and at each other's throats. And naturally, while we literally ARE ALL COOPED UP right now, bowling with our kids may seem like a dream that will never come true. I'm still signing up for this program to keep some sort of eternal hope alive in my soul that eventually this all will end. Let's Keep Reading
Simplify your wardrobe this weekend in 4 easy steps
Do you have a closet filled to the brim with clothes, scarves, and shoes, but still feel like there's "nothing to wear" every morning? Do you regularly end up wearing the same outfit most days -- jeans + grey or black shirt + grey or black cardigan -- because you're overwhelmed with all the options? That was me about a year ago. I had TONS of clothes but very few pieces actually "worked," meaning they fit well, went with other pieces in my closet, and reflected my personality. The problem wasn't that I lacked options. The problem was that I had too many options. It's like walking into a Vegas buffet and not knowing what to eat. An overflowing Keep Reading
Why is using cash so important?
Dave Ramsey starts every hour of his radio program with "Cash is king." Anyone who consumes his content knows that using cash as the primary form of payment is a really, really big deal to the Dave Ramsey financial plan. It's also been the one of the most significant changes my husband and I have made over the last decade that has resulted in a budget that actually works for our family. And in turn, I have made the use of cash central to what I teach on FrugalLivingNW.com because I know, from experience, that it works. I have created courses in the past and taught MANY classes and seminars on creating and sticking to a budget. Many students in my Keep Reading

How to Create a Routine During Social Distancing
Wondering how to do life now that everyone is home all day long? Here are my tips to staying sane and maybe even having some fun during this extended time at home: Get up and ready for the day It's oh so tempting to treat this unplanned break as a vacation, but I encourage you to not fall into that routine. Now, I'm not interested in micro-managing every moment of our day, but I do know that I feel better about myself and my family if I've gotten ready for the day (for me that's showered, real clothes, and hair and makeup done). My goal is to be ready for my day by 10:00 am. And this goes for the kids as well. They need to change their Keep Reading
Reusable cloth toilet paper FAQs (+ how to make and use homemade wipes)
How to make your own reusable toilet paper A few years back, my family took a 10-day adventure to make our own cloth toilet paper (reusable cloth wipes). If you're also curious or perhaps even interested in giving this reusable toilet paper thing a shot, here are answers to your cloth toilet paper questions: What is a family cloth/reusable toilet paper/reusable wipe? A piece of cloth that is used in lieu of toilet paper that can be washed and used again. How do you make reusable wipes? You can Keep Reading
Why use reusable cloth toilet paper (family cloth)
Reusable Cloth Toilet Paper We have hit the one-week "using cloth wipes instead of toilet paper" mark and we haven't died. Nor have I given up shaving my armpits. So win-win. Many of you, after throwing up a bit in your mouth, wondered why people go the reusable toilet paper/cloth wipes/family cloth route. Here's a big list of reasons why one might ditch the tp and use homemade wipes instead. To be clear, we switched to reusable wipes as an experiment. Some of the reasons listed below are personally compelling to me, some are not. ENVIRONMENTAL Most modern toilet paper in the developed world is designed to decompose in septic tanks, so Keep Reading
