Some friends introduced us to The Settlers of Catan. Have you played this board game yet? Oh, you should. I am totally hooked. And trust me, I am not a big gamer so don’t think this is just for the hardcore strategy game types. My husband and I have played it with friends or just the two of us.
It is easy to learn, interesting to play, and honestly the most fun I’ve ever had playing a board game. Because you can set up the board differently each time, no two games are alike. It doesn’t stretch into eternity (Oh, Monopoly, how I hate you), just an evening’s worth of fun. Big bonus.
Whether you enjoy strategy games (like my husband) or just a good clean challenge and competition (like me), check out The Settlers of Catan. It would make an excellent gift or addition to your board game collection, great to play with friends and family over the holiday season.

I bought this earlier today at Amazon for the $28.89 price, I had never heard of it before reading about it here, and it sounded like a great gift for my in-laws who have everything and love games. I was looking for this post to see what the price was yesterday, and couldn’t find it. I didn’t get it for $23.52, but now it’s up to over $33.00, so I still feel like a saved some money, so thank you all!
This is one of the games that very rarely goes on sale. I’ve had the game and all expansions for a couple years now.
Just recently, as the board games have become more popular, more traditional brick & mortar stores have started to carry this base game.

I was tempted to buy this at $23.52, but it is now up to $29.89. I am not sure i can justify the purchase, i am done buying the kids Christmas gifts. How rare is this to be on sale?

I can’t say for sure. This is the first year we’ve followed it. It might drop after Christmas depending on their stock, but if they don’t need to sell it off the price will remain high.

Use the Amazon price tracker camelcamelcamel.com. I recommend it. It shows that the lowest the price has dropped was $19.99 and that was October. Sign up for email alerts when the price drops to that again.
I love this game! My son wanted it after paying it in middle school. Its great for kids and adults!
We have played this for years and love it!! We own all of the expansions and my husband picked up Star Trek Catan that is only sold at Target recently. We played it on Sunday and it was a fun twist to the basic sort of game. I am not a “Trekkie” but my husband and our best friend sure loved the different verbage about Star Trek in the game.
There is a two-person card game version of this that we like even better. It has one expansion too.
Ah the bad puns are strong with this game, making it a great game for friends night, back in the “rick rolled” days someone did a “brick rolled”, or this woot shirt

Settlers of Catan is a great game. Unfortunately it has become the default game that we usually play at our game nights.
If you are looking to get an expansion, I’d recommend the Seafarers expansion as it doesn’t add a lot of complexity to the game, just ships and ocean tiles.
