Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, so it’s time to gear up for some appreciation-givin’! Here’s a big list of Mother’s Day gifts that the Frugal Living NW team would like to receive. Quick, someone send this list to the kids!
Brittany (our Safeway, Walmart, and WinCo expert)
Oh man. I just want my people to clean the house. My mom used to always say that and I thought she was lame. Now I totally get it.
NOT breakfast in bed. I don’t want crumbs in my bed and I don’t even feel like eating when I first wake up.
Cute dishes are always fun. (Amazon)
I think I like experiences the best for Mother’s day. A trip together to get pedicures, to eat out, to go shopping.
Heartfelt card/note really is awesome. Or maybe something with hand prints but not too tacky, like a mug from the little kids.
Anything on Jane. They have super cute daily deals on clothing, jewelry, kids stuff, household stuff, and more!
Kate (our Fred Meyer, Target, Whole Foods, and Pinterest expert)
Fitbit — I’m a little nutty about working out and tracking my stats right now and I’ve heard this little gadget is impressive.
Thai massage — Feels so good and you don’t have to get nakey-nakey. If you’re in the Portland area, go to Anni Hunt. She’s awesome — tell her Kate sent you to get a one-hour massage for $40!
Canvas family photo — I’m pretty sure this is not going to happen as I’m the only one who knows where the pictures are and how to find the best deal. But I can whip one up for my mom. Get 60% off + FREE shipping from Easy Canvas right now!
This apron from Anthropologie. And these measuring cups.
Not to be in charge of a meal from beginning to end. I get to sit and enjoy my food, not get up 6 times to get water, utensils, etc. and then I get to retreat to couch while others clean up the mess. Just one dinner.
Yard clean up with new dirt in the garden boxes.
A dutch oven like all the cute ones Emily owns. (Amazon)
Krista (our Albertsons expert)
Girl’s weekend trip to Skamania Lodge or the Oregon coast.
One of Kari Patterson’s eBooks. (Amazon)
A clean house.
A day where my husband is completely responsible for all three meals.
Laurie (our New Seasons & gluten-free deals expert)
A full night of uninterrupted sleep. Does Amazon carry that?
Fun kitchen stuff — These are the towels I like or a beautiful baking dish like something from Emile Henry (I have this dish and use it all the time — rarely for pies). It’s expensive but will last for years. (Amazon) And look at these wonderful collectibles. I’ll take anything in that store.
A clean house and someone else cooking and cleaning up afterwards.
New plants for the yard, blueberry bushes, hardy kiwi, grapes have all been past gifts that were great. If you’re in the Portland Metro area, check out the Camas Mother’s Day Plant & Garden Sale. Happens the day before Mother’s Day every year.
Shelly (our SEO and content research expert)
I’d love an Epicurean Cutting Board — they are all the rage right now. Dishwasher safe, heat resistant, don’t harbor bacteria, and don’t dull your knives. (Amazon)
A hanging basket or a tree to plant. And then someone to plant them for me.
A minivan (baby #3 is coming and the sedan just won’t cut it)
Patio furniture. I would love a lovely lounge chair. (Amazon)
Angela (our email expert — seriously, I mostly check, answer, and delete Frugal Living NW emails…)
A Dutch Bros. coffee in hand as I walk into church. We go to the early worship service and didn’t have time to drive to Dutch Bros. for their Mother’s Day special last year. I was in a silent rage for most of the morning. It wasn’t my most shining moment.
A full day of awesome. No kid arguing, Or punching. Or kicking. Or growling. Or whining. Or crying.
Ogio Women’s Soho Laptop/Tablet Backpack — I have a huge laptop and there are not many cute backpacks that accommodate this behemoth. I’ve been sporting a boring black one for a couple of years, and would love to switch to this green number. (Amazon)
The Blazers making it to the second round of the playoffs. Does anyone have LaMarcus or Damion on speed dial? Hook a sista up.
Knock anywhere from two to one million things off my personal “tasks to complete so I don’t go into a Dutch Bros withdrawal induced rage” list, all of which require my husband’s skill and none of my own.
What gift would you like to receive for Mother’s Day? If you’re not a mom what’s the best gift you’ve ever given?

Hope you all get what you asked for; I know you deserve it.

You gals are too FUNNY!
Emily didn’t have a list. I assume it would be something like “new solar panels” for the roof? J/K!
I love the dream {big} wishes: uninterrupted sleep, a minivan, PEACE on Earth! Happy Mother’s day, ladies!

I echo Brittany’s choice of shared experience. With older kids (who don’t fight or leave much mess), this has become to #1 gift choice, and has given us the sweetest, funniest memories and photos.

I’m excited to see so many of you put a clean house on your list because that’s EXACTLY what I got my momma this year. She always spends the week before I come for Mother’s Day frantically cleaning and by the time I show up she’s worn out. So this year I made a preemptive strike. 🙂

Personally, im STARVING when I wake up. So bfast in bed is a dream, ive never experienced, but would like to. Hubby tried one year, but kids were so loud in the morning with daddy trying to cook, I had to get up to see what was going on.
I have fibro (fms) so having a day on the couch is too much of my norm…it sucks..hubby plays housekeeper on weekends when he is home, so im super lucky with that.
Id like a day of actual energy.
Id like to grocery shop alone for a change, coupons in hand, given as much time as I want at the commissary.

Haha Angela- no whining or arguing from the kids for a day? So you’re giving them up for adoption for 24 hours?!? 😉
Angela Davis says
Exactly.

my wish is to have my favorite coffee in hand for church and then perhaps an afternoon of window shopping for a few new pots for my flowers in the house or shopping at the nurseries for new lilacs and dogwoods for my garden 🙂 I would love to wrap up the day with a family dinner and special time with my mom and the family as a whole. If all else fails time with my hubby alone for a bit and then time with my crazy zoo family will work for me!

A day to use the “spa day” gift certificate I got for Valentines Day 😉

Oh Angela, I’m a starbucks girl but I am all with you on the ‘silent rage’. I too, have had a few not shining mornings from the lack of espresso.
Aletha says
I LOVE Anni! She is pretty awesome. Thai massage going on my list.
Tracy says
I had to laugh when I read Angela’s first two. I can so relate!

How about:
A week of only working half my waking hours. Work is anything you can pay someone else to do…including shopping, cleaning and childcare!
Lisa says
Totally agree with Brittany!
