This is Emily’s review from Christmas about the Richard Scarry Busytown Board Game. We bought this on her recommendation and absolutely love it. It’s become a family favorite.

My husband and I both grew up with Richard Scarry books. We loved them, and have passed the love of the books and movies on to our kids. But a board game? Ugh. I don’t know about you, but typically playing board games with young children would be right under getting poked in the eye with a sharp object on my list of favorite things to d0. Painful. Cootie lasted all of one week in our house.

Well, two years ago our daughter received the Richard Scarry Busytown Board Game as a birthday present. We have been playing it together ever since. And actually enjoying it! It teaches numbers, counting, teamwork, and observation skills. We still play this game on a regular basis (a couple times a week), and everyone (including me and our 2.5 year old) has a good time.

The game is set up like a big page out of a Richard Scarry book, with different objects to find as you move through Busytown. One of my favorite parts about the game is that everyone has their own playing piece, but all players work together to finish the game. It is a nice combination of cooperative and competitive play.

If you have young kids, ages 3-6, in your life that love anything I Spy or Richard Scarry (or need to be introduced!), this would be a great game to give them. Check out all the positive feedback:138 reviews, and the product has a 4.8 star rating!

    I bought this game for our house hold this last Christmas and would recommended it to anyone. My 3 year old is in the horrible “if I’m losing I don’t want to play” phase and this is one of the few games he can complete successfully without a melt down as it is a co-operative not competitive style of play. My 5 year old and I enjoy the “gold bug search” portion of the game the most.

    I am happy to see I am not the only one who doesn’t like cooties. We just ordered this game for my 3 young children we have been reading a lot of Richard Scarry lately so it should be a hit.

    My 3yr old son has this game. We have lots of fun playing this game with him. He especially gets excited saying “pigs eat”. I like that you are all winners or losers.

    How adorable! I can think of a few kids in my life who would enjoy this game (and maybe some books to go with it). And so much better than extra candy for Easter.

    We bought this for our kids after your Christmas review and everything you said was perfect. This is honestly the first game I can play with our 4-year old that doesn’t make me want to punch myself in the face. There are enough different aspects to the game to break up the monotony and you really do “work together” to win, which I love. This would make an amazing Easter gift!
