Last week, I shared two spring recipes, an Asparagus Cheese Tart and Crescent Roll Pinwheels, using Great Value refrigerated crescent roll dough. I brought both dishes to our church mom’s group where I take care of providing the morning brunch for everyone. Each month I spend a late night and early morning preparing all the food. I love doing it, but it requires quite a bit of time and timing. Adding some recipes using refrigerated dough was a definite time saver to my normal scratch-cooking mode.
It even allowed me to do fancy stuff, like brush my hair and make sure my daughter had changed out of her pajamas before we raced out the door. When I arrived, a friend was impressed that I had actually applied eye shadow. With refrigerated dough, who knows what I could accomplish! Today, eye make-up. Tomorrow, our laundry pile! Refrigerated dough will take you places.
Crescent Pinwheels are a tasty addition to any brunch. There were no leftovers at the end of the morning, which I always consider to be the sign of a recipe worth keeping.
And honestly, this is barely a recipe. These pinwheels are a combination of Ranch dressing, crumbled bacon, grated cheese, and green onions. You could roll up any combinations you want. They are simple to assemble, serve, and eat.
The arrival of asparagus (at a decent price) in the produce section is a sure sign of spring. I love the bright green pops of color in each spear. This dish could not be easier to make. Simply roll out the dough, spread it with a little Dijon mustard and shredded cheese, and tumble out a row of asparagus along the top. Even our 1-year old gobbled these up. (Find more about taking advantage of asparagus while it’s in-season here.)
This tart bakes up quickly and can be cut into squares to serve. It looks fancy and fussy but involves very little time and just a few ingredients.

I’ve bought these before and normally I haven’t had a problem, but the last time I purchased them, the rolls were covered with a lot of silver material (I’m assuming from the package) and it wouldn’t come off. Hoping I just got a bad batch.
